About Us
We are passionate about getting everybody out in their garden and enjoying their natural surroundings! We understand the positive effect that gardening and enjoying nature can have on a persons health and wellbeing. We are always thrilled to see the ways that other people are helping others and encouraging them in to the great outdoors.
One of the champions of this idea is the fabulous Cultivation Street. The amazing team - founded by and headed up by The BBC's Love Your Garden presenter David Domoney - work to acknowledge the amazing efforts made by community gardens and local organisations. Their challenge is to make gardening accessible to everybody of all ages and abilities and backgrounds.
Working with Garden Centres like ourselves they are trying to break down the barriers between gardening and people wanting to get involved. Part of their work is establishing Cultivation Street Ambassadors in garden centres who work with the community and are friendly faces within the centres for people to approach and ask their gardening queries. We love his idea as it has helped us forge new relationships with local school and organisations and help them to bring gardening to their pupils.
This spring we were luck enough to offer free Calliope Geraniums to our local schools through the Cultivation Street Ambassador programme, which gave us a great opportunity to visit the schools and meet some of the pupils!
David Domoney set up Cultivation Street to acknowledge and reward those that are doing their bit to use gardening to create safe and happy environments and to bring back a sense of community. David is passionate about the fact that gardening can bring people together and enhance lives.
The organisation is set up as a Gardening Competition that recognised communities and local groups that achieve great things with their community gardens and projects. Prize money is given to the winners of a number of categories. Along with the excitement of the competition and prizes, Cultivation Street brings with it a number of emotional and uplifting stories about communities coming together and changing lives. Cultivation Street set out a clear set of goals they are trying to achieve:
COMMUNITY - Bring back community gardening and revitalise our streets
PROMOTE AND SUPPORT - Promote and support community gardening and school projects
INSPIRE - Inspire people to take up gardening and grow their green skills
COMMUNITIES, TOGETHER- Draw communities together through gardening activities
HEALTHIER LIVES - Encourage healthier life styles through gardening
RECOGNISE AND REWARD - Recognise, reward and replicate the very best in British community gardening
We think these goals are great and will do what we can to support them!
