  • Keep an eye open for snowdrops as they begin to flower in pots as this is the best time to plant them (in the green).
  • Prune Wisteria to encourage flowering by cutting back shoots to two or three buds creating a short spur. Look out for fragrant sarcococca, a small evergreen shrub. Their sweet scented blooms will be with us from now till March, great planted in a pot near a door.

  • The Flowers of Hellebores will be emerging this month, remove all old foliage this will prevent leaf spot but also ensures flowers take centre stage, new leaves will appear in a few weeks.

  • Continue to clear borders and apply a mulch while the soil is moist (But not if frozen).
  • Cut back stems of Cornus (coloured stem varieties) almost to ground level this will encourage strong shoots with intense colour.
